Columbia City softball in sectional final

 

The Columbia City softball team will be playing in the softball sectional title game Friday night at 6 pm. The Eagles advance to the title game after beating Lakeland in 6 innings 11-1, on the ten run rule. The Eagles will be playing against Wawasee at Lakeland, the host site. The Eagles beat the Warriors back on April 13 with a 7-3 score.

Lady Eagles advance two athletes to State finals

The Columbia City girls' track team advances two Lady Eagles to the State finals meet hosted at Indiana University. To qualify for the State meet competitors must finish in the top three of their respective event at the Regional meet or meet the state standard set in place by the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA).

Lady Eagle high jumper, Kinsey Kauffman qualified in the high jump, finishing second with a jump of 5-5 1/2, which also met the standard. Teammate Mallory Vandersaul qualified in pole vault by finishing third and vaulting to a 10-4 height.

As a team, Columbia City finished 9th out of 31 teams. The boys' Regional competition will be held at Fort Wayne Wayne on Thursday at 4:45 pm.

Boys' track results

Whitko ended the night of sectional competition in the third place spot with 84.50 points. The Wildcats advanced in 10 events to FW Wayne for regional competition, where they will compete in the 100-meter dash, 1600-meter run, 3200-meter run, 300-meter hurdles, 4x100-meter relay, 4x400-meter relay, 4x800-meter relay, high jump, pole vault, and long jump.

Churubusco advanced athletes in seven events, giving them a fourth place finish with 78 points. The Eagles advance to the FW Wayne regional in the 100-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 110-meter hurdles, 4x400 meter relay, high jump, pole vault, and two athletes in the 200-meter dash.

Columbia City completed the meet in seven place with 55 points, one-half point behind Eastbrook. The Eagles qualified in five events for the FW Wayne regional, winning the pole vault competition as junior Dylan Miller cleared 12-06. Columbia City advanced in the 800-meter run, 4x100 meter relay, 4x800 meter relay, and discus.

Girls' track

Columbia City advanced to regionals at FW Northrop in every event but the 800-meter run and the 4x400-meter relay. With their dominance in the events, they also won the sectional title, beating out second place Huntington North by 37 points.

Churubusco advanced two girls in three events to the FW Northrop regional. Payton Summers advanced in the 100-meter dash, while Heather Monk moved on in the shot-put and discus. The Eagles finished the meet in 6th place with 34 points.

Whitko also advanced two athletes to the FW Northrop regional. In the 400-meter dash, Josie Sparks moved on as well as Micaela Sylvester in the 100-meter hurdles. Whitko finished in 7th place with 33 points.

Boys' track results will be coming later as their meet is still in progress.

Angola takes two from Whitko

Whitko baseball fell 14-1 and 14-2 in both games of a doubleheader agaisnt Angola on Saturday. Whitko drops to 7-18 on the season and travel to Rochester on Tuesday.

Wabash 7, Whitko 1

After picking up a 13-0 win on Saturday against Lakewood Park, the Wildcats slipped up against TRC foe Wabash.  The Wildcats lost to the Apaches in a 7-1 game, where Whitko's only score came in the first inning as Nathan Sherrard scored on sacrifice fly by Trevor Sleighter. The Wildcats travel to Southwood on Wednesday as they hope to improve their 7-14 record.

Tippy Valley 3, Whitko 1

The Whitko baseball team fell to 6-11 on the season Wednesday night in a 3-1 loss to Tippy Valley. Whitko's lone run came in the fourth inning when Trevor Sleighter scored on a walk by Tyler Linn.

'Busco tennis knocked off by NECC foe

Churubusco girls’ tennis fell 0-5 to NECC foe Angola Tuesday night.

In #1 singles, Alysa Holloway lost to Angola’s Samantha Parrish 1-6, 0-6. Teammate Marla Martinez stumbled against Katie Griffis 1-6, 2-6, in #2 singles. At #3 singles, Eagle sophomore Allison Shambaugh fell to Kirstyn Quandt 0-6, 2-6.

In the closest match of the night Churubusco’s #1 tandem of Hannah Dodson and Morgan Young lost in three matches 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 2-6. The final match of varsity competition was in the #2 doubles spot, where the duo of Alecia Harmon and Randie Murphy fell 1-6, 1-6 to Angola’s Mariah Chambers and Jessica Carter.

CC vs. Dekalb video

The Columbia City baseball team hosted the Dekalb Barons Tuesday night and fell 8-7 in extra innings. Below, I join in during the third inning as Columbia City is enjoying a 4-3 lead and at bat is junior Cory Clifford, who knocks in a single.
