Eugene F. “Gene” Lamboley, 72

Eugene F. “Gene” Lamboley, 72, of Jefferson Township, Whitley County, died at 6:40 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2010 at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
He was born July 14, 1937 in Fort Wayne a son of George A. and Vera A. (Beckbarger) Lamboley. He completed his education at Elmhurst High School.
On April 19, 1958 he was united in marriage to Shirley A. Pequignot. They have always made their home in Jefferson Township.
He served in the United States Army from October 1960 until his honorable discharge on September 30, 1966.
He was employed 10 years at Fort Wayne Country Club, 10 years at Columbia Liquors, was co-owner of Mansdorfer Bros. Marathon from 1967 until 1989 and retired from Fort Wayne Country Club in June 2005 as groundskeeper with an additional 17 years of service.
His memberships included St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Roanoke American Legion, Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Dept. for 43 years and former leader of Boy Scout Troop #83.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Shirley; son, Douglas E. (Lori) Lamboley of South Whitley; daughter, Shelli A. (Tracey) Smith of Fort Wayne; and three grandchildren, Meghan Smith, Garrett Lamboley and Drew Robinson.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Bethany Lamboley; and two half sisters, Marjorie Bugert and Virginia Geise.
The funeral service is 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Arcola. Entombment will be in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with a Rosary Service beginning at 7 p.m. Monday.
Preferred memorials to Jefferson Township Fire Dept. or masses to St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

Phil D. Kramer, 74

Phil D. Kramer, 74, local contractor, died at 5:54 pm Friday, March 26, 2009.  Mr. Kramer collapsed after getting out of his truck following a two vehicle accident near the intersection of U.S. 30 and State Road 9 Friday evening.
He was a lifetime resident of Columbia City and was born on December 21, 1935, a son of Alvin “Abe” and Mildred LaFever Kramer.  He completed his education in the Columbia City High School.
He was employed by the Transport Motor Express Company,  then for Dale Johnson’s Columbia Home Improvement Company for many years and then a self employed contractor.
Mr. Kramer was first married to Jeanette L. Harding Addison and later to Carolyn Rosen VanHouten.
He was a member of the Columbia City Eagles Lodge and he enjoyed playing cards with his friends and fishing.
The surviving children are, Robert (Jane) Addison, Payne, Ohio, Kellie J. King, Christine (Kim) Jenkins, Alan VanHouten all of Columbia City and John Kramer, Fort Wayne; 12 grandchildren; six great grandchildren and a brother, Gerald “Joe” (Diana) Kramer, Columbia City.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mark A. Kramer; a great grand daughter, Elizabeth Jenkins, brothers, Stanley and Jack Kramer and a sister, Joan Rinehart.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 7 pm Wednesday in the Smith and Sons Funeral Home.  The visitation will be one hour before the service.  The burial will be in the Greenhill Cemetery at a later date.

Dot E. Cox, 79

Dot E. Cox, 79, of Columbia City, entered Heaven at 7:26 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2010.
She was born December 13, 1930 in Union Township, Whitley County, a daughter of George Cecil and Gladys Fern (Traster) Crawford. Her formative years were spent in Union and Columbia Townships. She graduated from Coesse High School in 1948.
On January 30, 1950, she was united in marriage to Eldon E. Cox. They made their home in Cleveland Township and later Jefferson Township before moving to Aboite Township, Allen County. In 1957, they moved to a farm in Washington Township, Whitley County. Following the death of Mr. Cox on September 18, 1979, Dot moved into Columbia City. In 1989, she returned to Washington Township until 2006 when she moved back into Columbia City.
She was a Deputy Clerk for the Whitley County Clerk office from 1948 to 1949, worked at Columbia Grain for three years and retired as dietary manager from Miller’s Merry Manor in 1993 with 25 years of service.
Her memberships include First Church of God and Certified Dietary Managers Association.
Surviving relatives include six children, DiAnna (Larry) Weiss and Barbara King, both of Columbia City, Jude Cox McCartney of Evanston, Illinois, Beverly (Jeffery) Middleton of Kingwood, Texas, Richard “Ritter” (Conni) Cox and Janelle (Scott) Smith, both of Columbia City; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; three brothers, Cecil Crawford Jr. of Loon Lake, Dick Crawford of Columbia City and John Crawford of Zellwood, Florida; and three sisters, Betty Lawrence of Columbia City, Donnabelle Comer of Fort Wayne and Mary Lou Pittenger Lehman of Columbia City.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Phil Crawford, Gerald Crawford and Jack Crawford.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Martha Jane White, 84

Martha Jane White, 84, of Columbia City passed away at 11:25 a.m. Monday, March 22, 2010, at Parkview Whitley Hospital.   
Born on November 9, 1925, in Columbia City, she was the daughter of Dorsey Alan and Alice May (Long) White.
She has been a resident of Columbia City and Columbia Township, Whitley County, since birth.  She began attending the Salavation Army as a small child & continued until the Salvation Army closed their Columbia City location.  She then became a member of the Columbia City Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include her 3 nephews, Elmer (Joan) Stocker of Carmel; Dorsey (Cindy) Simmons of Fort Wayne; Carl V. Simmons of Columbia City; 2 nieces, Esther (Dennis Creech) Smith and Beth (Ron) Glassley both of Columbia City; several nieces and nephews.  
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Arthur D. White, sisters, Ethel Eldridge and Ruth B. White Simmons and brother-in-law, Ned V. Simmons.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2010 from 11:00 a.m-1:00 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive , Columbia City.   Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the funeral home with Pastor Thomas Beers of Columbia City Church of the Nazarene officiating. Lawrence "Larry" Leif Savoie, 80

Lawrence "Larry" Leif Savoie, 80, of Albion, passed away at 11:40 a.m. Sunday, March 21, 2010 at his High Lake home.
Born on November 7, 1929, in Munising, Michigan, he was the son of Leo C. and Gladys M. (Benzing) Savoie.
He served in the United States Army with the 101st Airborne, serving in both World War II and the Korean War. He completed his GED and attended Texas A & U for one year. A resident of Albion for the past 34 years, he retired in 1992 from Conrail Railroad as a machinist with 17 years of service. On April 9, 1977, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Lee in Logansport, Indiana.
His memberships included Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and ABATE.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Carolyn Savoie of Albion; children, Charles Savoie of Sunnyvale, California, Cindy (Randy) Ferguson of Eugene, Oregon, Lenay Savoie of Grants Pass, Oregon, Lee (Lara) Savoie, of Eugene, Oregon, Linda Wood of Albion, Dan Cole of Columbia City, Trisha Lee of Albion, Barbara Lee-Amsden of Monticello and Jamie (Cristian) Matson of Avilla; brother, Bruce (Kim) Savoie of Hudsonville, Michigan; step-brother, Glenn (Jackie) Lloyd of Grand Rapids, Michigan; 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces; and he served as a father figure to numerous children.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Danny Savoie, brothers, Leon C. Savoie II and Wayne B. Savoie, step-mother, Fannie Savoie and sister-in-law, Judy Savoie-Maloy.  
Visitation is Thursday, March 25, 2010 from 4 - 8 p.m. with a prayer vigil at 5:00 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Doyne DeVon Butt, 81

Doyne DeVon Butt, 81 of South Whitley, died at 9:28 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2010, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Columbia City where he was a resident.
He was born August 10, 1928, in Denver, Indiana, a son of Clyde and Sarah Ann (Fuller) Butt.  He started his schooling in Denver and in 1943 the family moved to South Whitley.  He graduated from South Whitley High School in 1946.  
On September 22, 1948, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served with the U.S. occupation forces in Japan.  He received his honorable discharge on August 6, 1952.
On December 21, 1952 he was united in marriage to Clara Marie Calhoun.  They made their home in South Whitley.  
He was employed by the Town of South Whitley and later became the tower operator for Nickel Plate Railroad in South Whitley.  In 1954, he went to work for Gripco, South Whitley retiring in 1989.
In addition to his employment, he served as Justice of the Peace for 5 years and served on the South Whitley Planning Commission.  A South Whitley/Cleveland Township volunteer fire fighter for 12 years, he served as chief, assistant chief and secretary-treasurer.  
His memberships included, South Whitley United Methodist Church, a leader for the local Boy Scouts of America and a Little League coach.
Surviving relatives include wife of 57 years, Clara Marie; two sons, Michael (Lisa) Butt, Indianapolis and Stephen (Tami) Butt of North Manchester; one granddaughter, Carli Butt of North Manchester.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Herman Wayne Butt.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m.Wednesday at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley with Pastor Robert Barton of South Whitley United Methodist Church officiating.  The burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to South Whitley/Cleveland Township Fire Department or Huntington’s Disease Society of America.

Tressa Lynn Clark, 49, of Columbia City, died at 8:15 a.m. Saturday, March 20, 2010, at her home. She had been in failing health since January 2009.
She was born December 8, 1960, in Columbia City, a daughter of Robert D. and Evelyn G. (Ogden) Egolf. A lifelong resident of Columbia City, she graduated from Columbia City Joint High School.
She was employed at Seamco, Perstorp and Reelcraft, but her true pleasure was babysitting while her children were younger and later for her grandchildren.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Brandi (Josh) Duncan and Tara Schuman, all of Columbia City; six grandchildren, Taylor & Carson Duncan, Madaya, Dylan & Grady Schuman and Hope Rhodes; her mother, Evelyn (Terry Pritchard) Egolf of Columbia City; a brother, Tracy (Renee) Egolf of Larwill; former husband, John Clark of Columbia City; fiancé and his children, Gene Bushee of Ossian, Tyler Bushee & Tonya Bushee, both of Ossian; three step brothers, Todd Prichard of Cromwell, Keith Pritchard of Fort Wayne and Kevin Pritchard of Ossian; and a step sister, Lisa Shockney of Larwill.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Nick Adam Lemley, 32

Nick Adam Lemley, 32, of Columbia City passed away 2:57 p.m. on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at his residence.  
Born July 28, 1977 in Fort Knox, Kentucky, he was the son of Kenneth L. and Michele M. (Hedrington) Lemley, Jr.
He has spent most of his lifetime in Columbia City, except for a brief time in Sturgis, Michigan, and 3 years in Churubusco. He graduated from Columbia City High School with the Class of 1996 and first worked at Essex Wire, Columbia City and then at C&A Tool, Churubusco as a CNC machinist.  
He was of the Catholic faith, loved camping with his children and family, hunting, fishing and working with his hands.
Survivors include his three children, Alexus Rae Lemley, Huntertown, Anthony Conrad Lemley and Kaylee Dawn Lemley both of Churubusco; parents, Kenneth L. Lemley, Jr., Churubusco and Michele M. Lemley, Columbia City; a sister, Heather Machlan, Columbia City; 3 brothers, Kenneth L. III, George A. and Gary M. Lemley all of Columbia City; three nephews, Michael and Christopher Machlan and Kenneth Lemley, IV all of Columbia City.  
He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Therese Coleman and grandfather, Kenneth Lemley, Sr.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 22, 2010 from 3-5 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, with funeral services following calling at 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Dan Lee Gordon, 55

Dan Lee Gordon, 55, of Columbia City passed away peacefully at his home at 3:53 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16, 2010.
Born March 25, 1954, in Columbia City , he was the son of Norman Dale and Margie Alice (Gaerte) Gordon.
He graduated from Columbia City Joint High School with the Class of 1972 and lived his entire lifetime in Whitley County, except for 10 years at Chapman Lake, rural Warsaw. He married Tamra Jo Kneller on October 26, 2008, at The Chapel in Fort Wayne.  
He first worked for Toby Krider's Lawn Service and then WA Jones, both in Columbia City. He later worked for Dana in Fort Wayne, Essex in Columbia City, Food Marketing in Fort Wayne, Boyd Machine in Wolf Lake and for the past 20 years as a CNC machinist for DePuy, Warsaw.
He was a member of The Chapel, N.R.A., A.B.A.T.E. and H.O.G.
Survivors include his wife, Tamra Jo Gordon of Columbia City; two daughters, Christina D. (William) Jeffers of Columbia City; Jodi Williams of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Danielle, Haley and Amanda; his parents, Norman D. and Margie A. Gordon; a sister, Debbie D. (Wayne) Kreiger and brothers, Randy Joe (Julie) Gordon and Benny Bruce (Robin) Gordon all of Columbia City and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.  
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Edward and Mabel Gordon and Grover and Beulah Gaerte.

Albert Eugene Smith, 57

Albert Eugene Smith, 57, of Columbia City, died Thursday at his home.
He was born March 28, 1952 in St. Joseph County, Indiana a son of James G. and Edna C. (Miller) Smith. As a young boy, his family moved to Union Township, Whitley County. He was educated at Coesse School and graduated from Columbia City Joint High School in 1970.
From 1970 until 1979 she was employed at Scott Grocery, delivered the Journal Gazette for six years, worked at Group Dekko for 17 years and Wal Mart from 2004 until becoming disabled.
His memberships included Columbia City Church of the Nazarene and Eagles Lodge #1906.
Surviving relatives include his mother, Edna Sampson of Columbia City; two half brothers and a half sister, Jerry Sampson of Columbia City, Rick (Pam) Sampson of Columbia City and Linda (Paul) Barkman of St. Joe.
He was preceded in death by a half brother, Larry Sampson.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Columbia City Church of the Nazarene, 506 North Main Street with visitation one hour prior. The burial will be in South Park Annex Cemetery. Visitation will also be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.
Preferred memorials are to Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.

Sally R. Kessie, 54

Sally R. Kessie, 54, of South Whitley died at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.
She was born on July 11, 1955 in Floyd County, Kentucky a daughter of James Adam and Anna Bojean (Ousley) Bradley.  As a small girl, the family moved to the Pierceton area where she attended Pierceton Elementary School.  She graduated from Whitko High School with the class of 1973.  
A homemaker, she worked at Biomet in Warsaw for approximately six years.  
Her memberships included Full Gospel Pentecostal Church, Silver Lake.
She is survived by a son, Phillip Jeremy (Rindi) Kessie of South Whitley, a daughter, Audra (Chad) Marsh, South Whitley; grandchildren, Maryssa Kessie, Danika Kessie, Hali Kessie, Beau Marsh and Whitney Marsh; three brothers, Ronald (Jackie) Bradley, Warsaw, Adrian Bradley, Silver Lake and James (Rose Marie) Bradley of Claypool.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Elkren Bradley.
The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Full Gospel Pentecostal Church, Silver Lake.  The burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Claypool.  The visitation will be from 2 p.m. Thursday until the funeral service on Saturday at the Church.
Arrangements are by Smith and Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley.

Gloria J. Cook, 82

Gloria J. Cook, 82, of Columbia City, died at 4:42 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Parkview Whitley Hospital.
She was born July 5, 1927, in Columbia City, Indiana, a daughter of LeRoy and Helen (Denton) Gruesbeck. Her formative years were spent in Columbia City.  She graduated from Columbia City High School with the class of 1945.
On September 21, 1946, she was united in marriage to Jack Allen Cook. They made their home in Columbia City.  In 1985, they moved to their home at Lake Wawasee.  Mr. Cook died May 20, 2000.  After the passing of her husband, she moved back to Columbia City.
In addition to being a homemaker, she and her husband owned and operated Cook Lanes Bowling Alley and Ten Pin Restaurant and Lounge for 41 years.  She was well known for her top bowling skills.
Her memberships included Columbia City United Methodist Church and Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
She is survived by three sons, Randall A. Cook of North Webster, Ross (Becky) Cook of Columbia City, Ryan (Karen) Cook of Columbia City; a daughter, Reisa (John) Snyder of Winona Lake; 10 grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother Larry Gruesbeck.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with Rev. C. Jack Scott officiating.  The burial will be in South Park Cemetery, Columbia City.  The visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Aileen Ziegler-McCann-Boggess, 69

Aileen Ziegler-McCann-Boggess, 69, of Columbia City , passed away at 11:35 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at her home.  
Born on July 8, 1940 in Detroit , MI she was the daughter of Robert P. and Aileen B. (Burk) Ziegler.
She was raised at Pretty Lake near Plymouth and continued to reside there for many years.  She then moved to Arizona for a few years, moving to Columbia City in 1993.  
She graduated from West High School, Plymouth , as a salutatorian with the Class of 1958.  
She was a former bartender at Columbia City Eagles Lodge #1906.
Survivors include her sister, Katherine B. Howe of Cincinnati, Ohio.  
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Jane E. Helsel, in 2008, her Aunt Betty Burke, who raised her as well as and Mom and Pop Burke.
Graveside committal services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 12, 2010 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Plymouth with Father Bill Kummer of St. Michael's Catholic Church officiating.  Arrangements were entrusted to DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive , Columbia City.

Amy Elizabeth Klein, 38

Amy Elizabeth Klein, 38, of Columbia City, passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 due to injuries she sustained in an accident on US 35 South of Kingsbury.
Born on January 5, 1972, in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of Lloyd E. and Kathy Sue (Nebehy) Klein.
She graduated with the Class of 1991 from Northrop High School, Fort Wayne. She earned her Bachelors of Science Degree in mathematics from Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne in 1993.
For twenty plus years, she was employed by Walgreen Drug Stores, serving in various capacities prior to becoming the assistant manager for Walgreen's located on Coventry Road, Fort Wayne.
The majority of her lifetime was spent in Fort Wayne until she moved with her family in 1998 to Columbia City.    
Survivors include her mother, Kathy Sue Klein of Columbia City; sister, Jennifer Anne (Brent Bartol) York of Columbia City; nieces, Leah and Kayla York and nephew, Christopher Bartol, all of Columbia City; aunt, Carol (Tracy Swiontek) Nebehy of Chicago; uncles, Lee (Pat) Klein of Warsaw and Larry J. Klein of Churubusco.
A niece, Elizabeth Lynn, preceded her in death. Amy's father also died on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 from injuries he incurred in the same accident.
Visitation for Amy and her father is Friday, March 12, 2010 from 2-8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Lloyd E. Klein, 63

Lloyd E. Klein, 63, of Columbia City, passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at LaPorte Hospital, LaPorte, Indiana, from injuries he incurred in an automobile accident on US 35 South of Kingsbury. Born on October 2, 1946 in Fort Wayne, IN he was the son of Arthur A. and Sevilla I. (Robinette) Klein.
He graduated from South Side High School with the Class of 1965. Graduating with the Class of 1971, he completed his education at Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering.
On November 15, 1969, he married Kathy S. Nebehy in Fort Wayne.
The majority of his lifetime he resided in Fort Wayne until 1998 when he and his family moved to Columbia City. He retired in 2007 from USSI with over 30 years of service as a Chemical Engineer. He was a member of the Spoonpluggers Group; the bridge group at The Woodlands Senior Center; and a former member of the American Chemical Society. He attended Columbia City United Methodist Church.  
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Kathy Sue Klein of Columbia City; daughter, Jennifer Anne (Brent Bartol) York of Columbia City; brothers, Lee (Pat) Klein of Warsaw and Larry J. Klein of Churubusco; 3 grandchildren, Leah and Kayla York and Christopher Bartol all of Columbia City; and sister-in-law, Carol (Tracy Swiontek) Nebehy of Chicago.
He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Elizabeth Lynn. His daughter, Amy Klein, also died on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at the scene of the accident.
Visitation for Mr. Klein and his daughter, Amy, is Friday, March 12, 2010 from 2-8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Edward Frank McClure, 78

Edward Frank McClure, 78, of Columbia City passed away at 1:40 p.m. Monday, March 8, 2010 at his home.  
Born on December 16, 1931 in Fort Wayne he was the son of Thomas F. and Helen L. (Couts) McClure.
He was born in Ohio , moving as a young child to Wolf Lake , then to a farm in Thorncreek Township and lastly at his Tri-Lakes, Karen Kove home for many years.  He attended Wolf Lake High School through the 12th grade.  On March 12, 1950 he married Patsy Marie Gray in Lagrange.  He first worked at Essex Wire, Ligonier, G.E. Fort Wayne , and retired from Dana, Fort Wayne , as a leadman in the axle line department. After his retirement he assisted local farmers and operated Ed's Lawn Mowing Service. An avid Cubs fan, he also enjoyed fishing, golfing, mowing and general farming.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Patsy Marie McClure of Columbia City; 2 daughters, Pam (Steve) Loe and Linda (Art Miller) Coulter both of Columbia City; 1 son, Bruce E. (Brenda) McClure of Milford; 3 granddaughters, Brandie (Kevin) Kreps of Columbia City, Cara (Aaron) Likens of Wolcottville and Megan (Bryan) Lee of Fort Wayne; 4 great grandchildren, Jordan Coulter of Churubusco, Dakota and Jaegar Kreps of Columbia City and Vincent Likens of Wolcottville; 3 sisters, Deloris (Bob) Chiddister of Ligonier, Elline (Ruben) Weiner of Ithica, NY and Lynn (Tom) Beard of Sonoma, WI; 1 brother, David (Cindy) McClure of Wolf Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 grandson, Scott Coulter, 2 brothers, Fred and Mike McClure, 1 sister, Jeanne Clark and 1 son-in-law, Mike Coulter.

James Michael Hageman, 57

James Michael Hageman, 57, of Columbia City, IN passed away at 1:55 a.m. on Monday, March 8, 2010 at his residence after a  battle with cancer.  Born on August 17, 1952 in Fort Wayne, IN, he was the son of Richard J. and Wanda M. (Graves) Hageman.
He was born and raised in Fort Wayne, IN moving to Whitley County, IN in 1989.  He graduated from Bishop Luers High School with the Class of 1970.  He attended ITT Technical College receiving a certificate as an Electrical Technician in 1971 and completed Emergency Medical Technician training at Ivy Tech Community College in 1976.  On August 11, 1989, he married Joyce Partsch in Fort Wayne, IN.  He worked at GTE/Verizon for 35 years as an installer/maintainer retiring in 2007.  Then after retirement he worked at Geiger Developing.  He was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Hageman of Columbia City; 1 step-daughter, Sharon (Jackie) Monk of Churubusco, IN; 2  daughters, Andrea (Noah) Ladig of Avilla, IN; Michelle (Ben) Lawrence of Fort Wayne, IN; 1 son, Chris Hageman of Columbia City; 1 step-son, Jake (Kelly) Partsch of Markle, IN; 1 brother, Rick (Cheryl) Hageman of Milton, TN; 1 sister, Linda (Tim) Bell of Cummings, GA; mother, Wanda M. Hageman of Fort Wayne; and 9 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard J. Hageman.

Herbert Earle Stampe, 99

Herbert Earle Stampe, 99, of Columbia City, died at 5:09 p.m. Saturday March 6, 2010 at The Oaks, Columbia City.
He was born March 31, 1910 in Clinton County, Iowa a son of Peter Johannas and Fredericka Sophia (Hanssen) Stampe. His formative years were spent in Preston, Iowa where he graduated from High School in 1927. He then attended Browns College of Commerce in Clinton, Iowa.
On April 15, 1933, he was united in marriage to Mary Juanita Woll. They made their home in Iowa. In 1943 they moved to Indiana.
During WWII in was employed by Studebaker, Fort Wayne as an accounting clerk. In 1945, he went to work for Fibre Form, Columbia City and also began farming on acreage he purchased in Richland and Smith Twp. In 1950, he went to work for Terratrac which later became part of J.I. Case and they move through various assignments in Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois. He retired in 1972 returning to Columbia City.
His memberships included Grace Lutheran Church where four of his children where confirmed and three were married by the late Rev. Graham Kleespie, Sr.
Surviving relatives include his wife of 76 years, Mary; three sons, Roger A (Ruth) Stampe, Churubusco, Robert E. (Gloria) Stampe, Wildwood, FL, and Richard H. (Jenna Mae) Stampe, Reinbeck, IA; a daughter, Nancy Jo (Thomas) Anwyll, Springfield, VA; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren, two brothers, LeRoy (Helen) Stampe, Maquoketa, IA and Marvin Stampe, Alexandria, KY.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Adolph, Fred, Peter, Virtus Stampe and two sisters, Louise Black and Gladys Martin.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with Rev. Joyce Gerwing officiating. Burial will be in Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam. The visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Roscoe L. Rule, 85

Roscoe L. Rule, 85, formerly of Leesburg, died at 3:04 a.m. Saturday March 6, 2010 at Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.
He was born October 13, 1924 in Kosciusko County, Indiana a son of Lewis Franklin and Pearl May (Suter) Rule. His formative years were spent in Kosciusko County. He graduated from Silver Lake High School.
On October 13, 1945, he was united in marriage to Crystal Glea Eberly. They made their home in Kosciusko County. In 1964 they moved to Leesburg and in 2005 to Columbia City.
He was employed at Reed Motor Shop as an electrician from 1964 until his retirement in 2005.
His memberships included Spring Creek Church of the Brethren.
Surviving relatives include his wife of 64 years, Glea; a daughter, Peggy L. (Lewis) Bolinger, South Whitley; two grandchildren, Stephanie (Chad) Smyth and Brian (Kim) Bolinger; great grandchildren, Heidi and Katie Bolinger, Owen Smyth; step great grandchildren, Sam, Scott and Zoe Smyth; one sister, Vera Homan, Chapman Lake, Warsaw; brother-in-law, Herschel Schooley, Winona Lake and sister-in-law, Mrs. J.W. (Joan) Rule, North Manchester.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Lewis, J.W., and Wilbur Rule; sisters, Agnes Schooley, Irene Simison, Ina Schilling, Arveda Belle Rule and Ethel Rule.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley. Burial will be in the South Whitley Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

LaVerne L. Ewert, 90

LaVerne L. Ewert, 90, formerly of Columbia City, died at 6:33 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Coventry Meadows Assisted Living, Fort Wayne where she had been a resident since November, 2007.
She was born November 8, 1919 in Fort Wayne, Indiana a daughter of Arno and Alma (Schmidt) Stein. Her formative years were spent in Fort Wayne where she attended Luther Institute.
On June 26, 1940 she was united in marriage to Noel E. Ewert. They made their home in Fort Wayne. In the mid 1990s, they moved to Columbia City. Mr. Ewert died April 30, 2006.
She owned and operated Knitting Machine Nook, Fort Wayne. As a professional seamstress, she also taught sewing.
Her memberships included Trinity Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Dora-Lee (Tom Clark) Duckworth, Granby, CO, Nola-Kay (Charles) Jetmore, Roanoke and Beth-Ann (Mike)Welch, Jacksonville, FL; seven grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren ; a brother, Arno Stein, Jr., New Haven and a sister, Wanda Shumaker, Wolcottville.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence A. Ewert and daughter, Alma-Louise Enz.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with Pastor Ross O’Dell officiating. The burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne. The visitation will be from 12:00 to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Rita A. Chapman, 91

Rita A. Chapman, 91, a resident of Union Township, died at 8:10 pm Wednesday, March 3, 2010 in the Renaissance Village in Dunfee, where she had been a patient since January 4th.
She was born on April 9, 1918 in Fort Wayne, a daughter of Clarence and Catherine Blank Flory. Her formative years were spent in Fort Wayne where she completed her education in the St. Peter’s Catholic School.
On September 21, 1940, she was united in marriage to Kenneth H. Chapman and they made their home in Fort Wayne, then New Haven and moved to a farm in Union Township, Whitley County in 1956.
Mr. Chapman preceded her in death on November 26, 2003.
Mrs. Chapman was a homemaker.
She was a member of the St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church and the American Legion Post #82 Auxillary.
The surviving relatives include two daughters, Sandra Kay (Richard) Schrader, Surprise, AZ, Sue (Walt) Dittmer, Columbia City; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a sister, Betty Mitchell, Fort Wayne and a brother, Jack Flory, New Haven.
She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas J. Chapman; brothers, Clarence Jr., William and Richard Flory; sisters, Geraldine Volz, Maxine Welklin and Bernadette Patton.
Mass of the Christian burial will be at 11:30 am Monday in the St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church with Father Larry Kramer the officiant. The burial will be in the Lindenwood Cemetery in Fort Wayne. The visitation will be on Sunday from 2 to 5 pm at the Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City and one half hour before the mass at the church.

Sarah Sue Baker, 95

Sarah Sue Baker, 95, of North Manchester , IN passed away at 8:27 a.m. Thursday, March 4, 2010. Born on January 20, 1915 in Nashville , TN she was the daughter of John and Annie (Castleman) O'Brien.         
She attended school in Nashville , TN. She lived her entire lifetime in Nashville , TN until May of 2006 when she moved to North Manchester. Her first marriage was to Benjamin Fergueson on February 17, 1932. On April 13, 1988, she married Howard Baker in Nashville , TN.   For 32 years, Sarah worked at Harvey 's Department store in Nashville as a store clerk.  She was a member of the 7th Baptist Church , Nashville .
Survivors include a daughter, Betsy Ann Davis of Auburn; grandchildren, Sonja K. (Michel) Litalien of Sylvania, OH, Donna (Dennis) Davis of Indiatlantic, FL, Tom (Maxine) Davis of Stockbridge, MI, Bobbie (Steve) Eyers of Auburn, Sandra Fergueson of Clarkeston, MI, and Kim (Paul) Conner of Canton, MI; 12 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Bobby O'Brien of Murfreesboro, TN.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first and second husbands, Benjamin Fergueson and Howard Baker, son, Leonard Fergueson, grandchild, Patricia Davis, brothers, Howard and Lucien O'Brien and sister, Lillian Messer.

Edna M. McCoy, 89

Edna M. McCoy, 89, of Columbia City, IN passed away at 3:05 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at The Oaks, Columbia City. Born on April 4, 1920,in Huntington, IN, she was the daughter of John F. and Rosena A. (Hartman) Karst.
She graduated from Columbia City High School.  On September 16, 1939, she married Ford McCoy in Columbia City.  A devoted housewife and mother, she worked for several years at Blue Bell as well as assisted her husband on the family dairy farm.
Survivors include sons, Jack (Susan) McCoy and Dennis (Jan) McCoy, both of Columbia City; daughters, Nora (Roger) Ferrell, Jerry (David) Wigent of Columbia City, Judith McCoy of Fort Wayne, and Kathy (Marlin) Carr of Warsaw;  26 grandchildren, 38  great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild; sisters, Juanita McConnell of Columbia City and Geraldine (Sam) Reiff of Pierceton, IN.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Melissa Creech, grandson, Nick McCoy; brothers, Julius S. "Toot," Raymond, Henry, Frank, Robert and Gerald "Bud" Karst; and sisters, Katherine McCoy and Pauline Perry.

Donna Belle Gillam, 86

Donna Belle Gillam, 86, of Roanoke, IN passed away at 11:06 a.m. Monday, March 1, 2010 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN.  Born on August 14, 1923 in Whitley County, IN, she was the daughter of Thomas M. and Bertha B. (Geist) Swing.
A lifetime resident of the Roanoke, IN area she attended Roanoke High School.  On October 21, 1950 she married Gilbert L. "Skip" Gillam in Warsaw, IN.  She retired in April 1987 after twenty years with Coil Engineering and Economy Machine Products in Roanoke.  She was a member of the First Brethren Church of Roanoke, IN, a 50 year member of Bethel Rebekah Lodge #382 of Laud, and since 1947 the American Legion Auxiliary of Roanoke.
Survivors include her son David A. (Patsy) Graves of Roanoke, IN; grandson, Tom (Mary) Graves of Columbia City; granddaughter, Lisa (Brent) Sunderland of Columbia City; 8 great grandchildren;  2 sisters, Cynthia Young of Bunker Hill, IN, Aladean Weaver of Roanoke, IN and brother, Dick (Joan) Swing of South Whitley, IN.
