Ruby M. Dial, 88, of Woodburn and formerly of South Whitley, died at 6:25 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2008, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, where she was admitted on September 12.
She was born July 23, 1920 in Montpelier, Indiana a daughter of Loyd E. and Virga (Zeigler) Anderson. As a young girl, her family moved to Ohio for a short time then to Allen County and later to Washington Township, Whitley County when she was a teenager. She graduated from Washington Center High School. 
On February 22, 1942 she was united in marriage to Robert S. Dial. They made their home in Laud for four years before moving to a farm in Washington Township. They later moved to a farm in Cleveland Township until 1991 when they moved into South Whitley. In December 2005 they moved to Woodburn. Mr. Dial died January 12, 2006.
A bookkeeper, she was employed at the Mayer Branch of Farmer’s Loan & Trust for 20 years.
She was a member of Washington Center United Methodist Church until 1970 when she transferred her membership to South Whitley United Methodist Church.
Surviving relatives include a son, Robert H. (Donna) Dial of Woodburn; five grandchildren, Troy, Jason, Jarod and Drew Dial and Davah Engle; two great grandchildren, Domnic & Rashel Dial; two brothers, Emmett Anderson of Winona Lake and Dan Anderson of Defiance, Ohio; and three sisters, Mary Fletcher of Warsaw, Clara Mitchell and Anna Keirn, both of Columbia City.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Richard and Ronald; and seven brothers, James, Carl, John, Mark, Roy, Donald and Russell Norman Anderson.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at South Whitley United Methodist Church, 6685 W State Road 14 with Rev. Paul Burris, church pastor, officiating. The burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley and one hour before the service at the church on Friday.

Ruth Elizabeth Ramsey, 91, of Columbia City, died at 4:10 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2008, at The Oaks Living Center. 
She was born at her home on the Saunder Farms near Columbia City, a daughter of George LeRoy and Clara (Bennett) Leininger on January 26, 1917. She attended Coesse School with 12 years of perfect attendance. After her 1934 graduation, she was employed as a felling operator at Blue Bell.
Ruth and Harland R. Ramsey met during the summer of 1932. They were married on Harland’s 21st birthday, April 19, 1937, at the Grace Lutheran Parsonage. They thought they were keeping their marriage a secret, but word got out and there was a “belling” for the newlyweds at Ruth’s mother’s home in Coesse.
Ruth did sewing alterations in her home and worked in the Tot & Teen Department at Blumenthals until they closed. She then worked at Roma’s Smart Shop and retired in 1987 from Betty’s Smart Shop.
After Harland’s death on April 23, 1972, Ruth took driver’s training which allowed her to drive to Louisiana to visit her brother, James Leininger, and his family. She enjoyed traveling tour groups to Washington D.C., Hawaii, Canada, Europe and throughout the United States. One of the highlights of her many trips to Albuquerque, New Mexico to see her daughter and her family, Beth, Don, Trudy, Cathy and Peggy, was the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta.
A member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, her memories of teaching Sunday School for 42 years (of which she was Superintendant for 29 years) was a source of strength for her as she battled dementia. She loved to sing “Jesus Loves Me.” Thanks to the support of the Grace Lutheran Parish Health Nurse, she was able to stay in her home until January 2003 when she became a resident at The Oaks.
Surviving relatives include her daughter, Beth (Don) Cretsinger of Albuquerque, New Mexico; granddaughters, Trudy (David) of Topeka, Kansas, and their children, Benjamin and Catalina; Cathy (Tom) of Redwood City, California and Peggy Diane (Lew) of Albuquerque, New Mexico and their twin sons, Ian and Gavin; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Phil LeRoy Leininger and James Leslie Leininger.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with Rev. Dr. C. James Cress, pastor of Grace Lutheran Church, officiating. The burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery. The visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Velma L. Pequignot Murbach, 97, of Columbia City, died at 1:50 p.m. Sunday, September 14, 2008 at Renaissance Village where she had been a resident since February 2006. 
She was born August 14, 1911, in Jefferson Township, Whitley County a daughter of Logan and Orpha (Sheets) Freck. A lifelong resident of Whitley County, her formative years were spent in Jefferson Township. She graduated from Jefferson Center High School.
On December 3, 1932 she was united in marriage to Theodore Edward Pequignot. They made their home in Dunfee a few years before moving to Columbia City. Mr. Pequignot died February 15, 1979.
She was employed several years at Alcoils.
In 1988, she was united in marriage to Harmon Paul Murbach. They always made their home in Columbia City. Mr. Murbach died May 19, 2005.
She was a member of Columbia City United Methodist Church.
Surviving relatives include three sons, Lynn (Lourine) Pequignot of Fort Wayne, Larry Pequignot of Illinois and Lowell (Tina) Pequignot of Glendale, Arizona; two step-daughters, Joy (David) Heinbaugh and Linda (Jack) Sevier, both of Columbia City; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a brother, Garland Freck and a sister, Alice Miller.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with Rev. Jean Ness, associate pastor of Columbia City United Methodist Church, officiating. The burial will be in Jefferson Chapel Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Jerry W. Ellison, 56, of Albion, died Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne from injuries sustained from a vehicle accident. 
He was born September 26, 1951, in Hartford City, Indiana, a son of Bernard F. and Garnet L. (Gray) Ellison. As a young boy, his family moved to Warren. He completed his education at Warren High School. A welder, he was employed several years at Dexter Axle.
Surviving relatives include two sons, Chad F. Ellison of Albion and Brian W. (Amy) Ellison of Columbia City; three grandchildren, Samantha, Autumn and Nathaniel; a brother, Randall F. Ellison of Albion; and a sister, Deborah Young of Smalley Lake.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathy J. Macy and Margaret Young.
The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2008 at Thorn Cemetery, Ormas with Pastor Jeff Hipley, pastor of New Hope Baptist Church, officiating.

Margaret Hiss, age 48, of Columbia City, passed away at her home on Wednesday afternoon, September 10, 2008. 
Born on August 29, 1960, in Hammond, she was the daughter of Casimir and Lucille (Kosiba) Lesniewski.
She graduated with the Class of 1979 from George Rogers Clark High School, Whiting, Indiana. She completed her education with an Associate Degree in Business Administration from Indiana Institute of Technology.
On June 25, 1983, she married Robert Joseph Hiss, Jr. at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, Columbia City. For the past 27 years, she resided in Union Township where she was a homemaker, a mother and assisted her husband on the Hiss family farms in Union Township. Since 1998, she was employed by Autoliv, Columbia City, until her health failed.
She was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister and taught CCD and VBS. She was also a Girl Scout leader for 13 years and PTO President for Coesse School for 7 years.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Joseph Hiss, Jr. of Columbia City; three daughters, Ashley M. (Charles) Gross, Amber M. Hiss and Anna M. Hiss all of Columbia City; a brother, John Lesniewski of Columbia City; three sisters, Christine (Thomas) Robinson of Bellvue, Nevada, Catherine Hetzel of Hawaii and Anna (Brian) Flott of Yelm, Washington; four sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; many nieces & nephews and a large extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a niece, Julie Groupy.
Visitation is 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. prayer vigil on Friday, September 12, 2008 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, Columbia City. Funeral service is 12 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2008, at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church in Columbia City. Father Larry Kramer will officiate. Burial will be at a later date at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Cemetery, Columbia City.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in memory of Mrs. Hiss to St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church Food Pantry, Heartland Hospice or Hope Lodge, Mid-South Division, 1500 College Way, Lexington, KY 40502. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
