Anonymous gift brightens the day for those dining at Downtown on the Square
My name is Karen Koday and I teach functional life skills to students with disabilities at Columbia City High School. Our district supports many great opportunities, including community based activities. The activities allow us to go out into the community and practice our skills in the areas of dining, shopping, and leisure. We are fortunate enough to be able to experience several different restaurants in the Columbia City area. At all of the places we visit, we encounter patrons, owners, and employees who are always welcoming, friendly, and patient. On Tuesday, we dined at Downtown on the Square. This restaurant is a big deal for our class because most of the places we go to are fast food. Some of the students had never been there before so there was a lot of anticipation. Downtown on the Square certainly didn't disappoint us with their accommodating and kind staff and fabulous food. As we were waiting for our bill, the waitress informed us that a customer had paid the bill for all 20 of us. We were overwhelmed and touched by the anonymous donor's generosity. I am truly grateful that I live in this community. The people are friendly, accepting, and compassionate. Our class is discussing ways that we can pay this forward and touch the hearts of others. This was an experience that will have a lasting positive effect on all of us. Thank you to everyone who works extra hard to make their experiences so valuable and beneficial. A special thank you to the wonderful patron who paid our bill. I hope you know what a difference you made in our lives.
